I wrote this next to an eye

I'm in a bad way
I don't know how long I'll be
Sit around, sulk all day
Hopefully I'll get back to being me

I try the things that I think
But none seem to want to work
Everyday I continue to sink
Sitting on my couch, continue to smirk

I make the goals, I make the lists
I just can't seem to get off the ground
I make the goals, I make the lists
I just can't find what needs to be found

I wrote this waiting to get picked up, it was nice. It's basically about how I do nothing all day. It's a mood I get in and want to get out of.

Status update

So, it's been what, a full day? Wow, feels longer. Well, I technically started last night when I thought of this crackpot idea. But an official day, yay! I rhyme a lot better today than I remember before. Things catch a melody a lot quicker than before which is nice. I haven't been able to work out any new guitar tunes that I would say are good. I wrote another song that I will post, and i'm going to finish my hour of focus now.
*edit* there is a woot-off, so writing will be halted until there is a dead item

Things I learned today:
I really like listening to music.
I somewhat regret this choice.
Catchy songs are all I sing to myself
Car and bike rides are painfully silent.
Coffee shops that play music are my enemy this week.
There is this song, it is very catchy, but I only know one part: "ever ever after" in a fast tempo. It is sooooo annoying.

Something that came to my head in borders' bathroom

I've got a friend, she's just a friend.
But sometimes I wonder what it'd be like, if we were dead.
I've got a friend, he's a really good friend.
And sometimes I wonder what it'd be like, if he were dead.

Would we still hang out in the park.
Would we still hang out till it got dark.
Would we be chasing what we want this summer.
Would we still be friends?

I can't imagine, because I've never been there before.
Would our simple lives start making us crave more.
How long would we live if it was just us two in all?
How long would it take us to start hanging out at the mall?

Maybe we will part ways and never see each other again.
But I think we have a better chance if stick together till the end.
Two is always better than one.
Who can think of anything more fun?

Zombies. Thats right, this is a song about zombies, and these ain't your mom's favorite 60's zombies either, these are the flesh eating, brains chomping, basic motor skills zombies. Read it again, it makes sense.
Anyways, as the title says, I came up with the first lines in the border's bathroom. Then I was going to post just that, but the rest just came out, in less than 15 minutes. Awesome. This is going to be a good week.

What this is...

No music week is a experemental project I am conducting on myself to see what outcomes not listening to music will have for a week. The inspiration comes from a Minnesota Public Radio program called Songs from scratch. Artists are given 3 weeks to write a song on a given topic. I went to the 'show' and learned a lot about how the four artists write music and their rituals. One ritual that caught my attenion was what Steph Alexander, P.O.S., does; he completely stops listening to music and just listens to the beats he will use for songs and records what lyrics come to him. I have been trying to become a better songwriter this summer and I will be giving up music to try and see if that is something that works to help my writing. The idea is that with a lack of influence and a void of things to listen to, I will start creating things to fill the void, and they will be original becuase of the lack of influence. This is my sudo-manifesto for the project.

I will be not listening to any music. This is sometimes unavoidable, so in the case of background music, I will not have it be my main focus, i.e. no singing along or listening to lyrics.
I will write for at least an hour a day. This may be scattered throughout the day, but for at least an hour I want to try and put things on paper.
I will be keeping updates to how the project is going on this blog; songs, poems, thoughts, and ideas will be the main bulk of it.

Hopefully this will be an interesting and productive week in the ways I would like. Thanks for reading.
Martin
